To upload your favorites to your account may be required for export to a file (explained in "3. Export your bookmarks" above). You can then load the file into your account by following the instructions on the site.

Mozilla has announced today Boot to Gecko, a new project that aims to deliver a mobile operating system for the open web. The goal: to help remove barriers that prevent web developers to create applications as powerful (performance and reach-wise) as native applications.
Mozilla is not starting from zero. It will pick the lower layers of Android, those closer to the hardware, and build presentation and application layers on top of it.
So why not go Android all the way if it already has all the necessary layers? Because as Andreas Gal, a project member, explains: “At some point Android used to be at least available source where Google would publish secretly/internally developed source code/technology after the fact as products ship, but even those times seem to be over now. I would love to boot my custom Android build on my Galaxy Tab 10, but no luck, Google refuses to release the source. ”
Mozilla will do real open source, ” in the open, we will release the source in real-time, we will take all successful additions to an appropriate standards group, and we will track changes that come out of that process.”, reads the short project wiki page.

Mozilla has released an update for Mac OS X users only to fix a couple of crash bugs that may happen when visiting a page with embedded web fonts on Mac OS X 10.7, Lion, or running the latest Java plugin on Mac OS X 10.5.
While Mozilla’s Rapid Release Cycle is so fast (a new release every 6 to 8 weeks), it was thought security or critical stability bugs would come only on major updates. This shows however there’s still room for out of ban releases when critical bugs are to be addressed.

Mozilla has successfully reached the beta milestone in its new Rapid Release Cycle strategy that aims release new Firefox versions about every 18 weeks, instead of uncertain feature-oriented, when-it-is-done approach used in the past, that while it has worked ok in the past, is too slow for today web development speed with a lot of vectors acting at the same time including mobile, web standards, hardware acceleration, desktop integration, as well as the traditional ones: security, usability, customization, and performance.
While Firefox 5 beta comes with no less than 1053 bug fixes it also does with the shortest new features list compared to any other Firefox release to date:

A more polished user interface with shorter shadows and sharper borders in all elements.
Performance improvements allow Firefox 5 to be 9% faster in the SunSpider test than Firefox 4.
Comes with support for CSS Animations, part of the CSS3 specification that lets web designers define animations between styling attribute changes. Still in development, CSS Animations are declared with the -moz prefix.
The option to enable the Do Not Track header for web servers has been moved to the Privacypage in the Options dialog.

An important difference in this update is that while add-ons are usually broken for most of a beta lifetime, in this case, Mozilla has automatically bumped compatibility for most add-ons, as there is no API change, so most of them should work right now with the beta.

Mozilla’s Johnathan Nightingale has announced an important change coming to future releases of Firefox on Android. According to the post, Mozilla will drop XUL as the language of choice for creating Firefox UI on Android and will use native widgets and interfaces instead.
XUL (eXtensible User interface Language), is an XML grammar used by Mozilla to define user interfaces for Firefox and Thunderbird. Gecko, the rendering engine is capable or interpreting this language and draw the user interface as required. The advantage of XUL has been that Mozilla only needs to compile and adapt Gecko for each platform in order to get the same user interface.
The problem, however, is that interpreting and painting at the application level adds an unwanted overhead, which usually goes unnoticed on most modern desktop and laptop computers, but becomes a bottleneck in resource constrained devices like cell phones and tablets. Native widgets are handled by Android directly so it doesn’t require additional translation or memory to map how to draw them.
Faster startup, less memory consumption, and improved responsiveness are some of the expected benefits of such a move,which is not free of important new challenges, most notably: localization and add-ons support, both of which are completely XUL-oriented. Options are still being weighted, which go from switching only the main UI (and possibly still getting a big chunk of the benefits) to limit add-ons to jetpacks only, which are less dependent on user interface restrictions.
The switch would also be a good opportunity to make an important revision of the UI design. As you can see in the screenshot below, the tab and navigation sidebars could be merged in a single one activated by the menu button, present in every Android phone.

The project to switch to native UI (codenamed Birch) is underway, and the Mozilla Wiki page even provides instructions for building a native UI Firefox for Android, but no binary is available for testing yet.
There is no deadline set at this time, but you shouldn’t hold your breathe, as it would arrive not earlier than Firefox 10 (early next year).
